I was eight days old when my father flew to the Middle East in search of greener pastures to sustain his family. The year was 1993. He once told me that on the day of his departure, he had a hard time boarding the plane because he was thinking about me. He wished he didn’t have to leave. He had only seen me for eight days and then he had to be gone for an indefinite period of time.
But he took the risk anyway.
When he told me about this, I realized how much my father loved me. And I love him even more because of that.
Now you may not have the same kind of story as I do. But you should know that there’s a father in heaven who sent his own son to live somewhere in the Middle East. The year was 4 B.C. Jesus left heaven in search of you. There was even a moment in his mission trip when he struggled to accept the weight of the prize that He was about to pay. “My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me” were his exact words (Matthew 23:39).
But he boarded the plane anyway and went all the way to cross. Where He gave his life as an atoning sacrifice for the sins of the world. Just to let you know that you are loved. And that you are worth the risk.
“For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.” (Luke 19:10)
